Reservoir Management Essentials is a five-day senior management course delivered by Mars Training Centre in London, Dubai, Muscat, Kuwait, and Cairo, and live online — designed for asset managers, planning leaders, and senior commercial professionals who steward producing oil and gas reservoirs.

A reservoir is not a tank that empties at a known rate — it is a complex subsurface system whose behaviour shifts as it is produced. The decisions taken by senior asset managers each year — well count, recovery technology, production rate, water and gas injection, abandonment timing — compound across decades into the difference between a strong-performing field and a disappointing one. Yet the senior leaders who sponsor these decisions are not always reservoir specialists; they often come from finance, planning, commercial, or general management.

This programme builds the senior-level reservoir literacy needed to steward producing assets with confidence. You will work through reservoir behaviour at a senior literacy level, the lifecycle of a producing asset, recovery technologies, production forecasting and reserves, and the senior-level decisions that determine an asset's ultimate value. The orientation is commercial and managerial, not engineering — the focus is on the questions a senior leader should be asking, not the simulations behind them.

What You Will Learn

  • Describe reservoir behaviour and the principal recovery mechanisms at senior literacy level.
  • Analyse the lifecycle of a producing field and the decisions at each stage.
  • Evaluate primary, secondary, and tertiary recovery options.
  • Interpret production forecasts and the assumptions behind them.
  • Assess reserves and resources classifications and disclosure implications.
  • Apply reservoir management thinking to mature field redevelopment decisions.
  • Evaluate the commercial trade-offs in production strategy choices.
  • Diagnose the principal subsurface risks in production decisions.
  • Position a reservoir for late-life management, redevelopment, or abandonment.
  • Communicate reservoir performance clearly to boards, partners, and ministries.

How You Will Benefit

You will leave with a structured senior-level command of reservoir management, sharper questions for your subsurface teams, and a clearer framing for the long-life decisions that shape asset value — and a Mars Certificate of Completion.

Your organisation will gain a senior asset steward who can stress-test recovery and production decisions, improve dialogue between subsurface and commercial teams, and lift the long-term value extracted from producing reservoirs.

Who This Programme Is For

This programme is designed for senior professionals stewarding producing assets, including:

  • Asset managers and asset directors in oil and gas operators
  • Heads of planning, business development, and joint ventures
  • Senior commercial managers in upstream operators
  • Government and ministry officials supervising producing assets
  • Senior finance and investment leads in upstream businesses
  • General managers from adjacent disciplines moving into asset roles
  • Senior in-house counsel and contracting leads on producing assets

The seniority floor is senior manager and above.
