Fire Safety and Prevention

Fire Safety and Prevention is a five-day senior-level HSE course delivered by Mars Training Centre UK in London, Dubai, Istanbul and Kuala Lumpur — for HSE managers, facilities directors and senior operations leaders responsible for fire safety across buildings, plants and complex sites.

Fire is one of the few hazards that can destroy an organisation overnight. Building safety in the United Kingdom has tightened considerably, the responsible-person regime has expanded, and insurers are scrutinising fire risk assessments far more critically than a decade ago. At the same time, lithium-battery storage, photovoltaic systems and dense data-centre infrastructure are creating new fire scenarios that older fire-safety plans were never designed for. Senior leaders who run fire safety well treat it as a live system — risk-assessed, drilled, audited and continuously updated against the building they actually have, not the building they had ten years ago.

Across five focused days you work through fire science, the UK regulatory framework and its international counterparts, fire risk assessment, prevention and detection systems, emergency planning, and the organisational behaviours that determine whether a building evacuates safely. The cases are drawn from the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East, and the work is delivered by senior practitioners with fire-engineering and HSE-leadership experience.

What You Will Learn

• Apply the fundamentals of fire science to assessing risk in your own building or site.
• Comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the duties of the Responsible Person.
• Conduct a defensible fire risk assessment in line with PAS 79 and equivalent standards.
• Select and specify fire detection, alarm, suppression and compartmentation systems for the risks at hand.
• Plan, drill and lead evacuation in complex buildings, including buildings with mobility-impaired occupants.
• Manage the fire-safety implications of new hazards — lithium batteries, electric vehicles, photovoltaic systems.
• Investigate fire incidents and identify systemic causes.
• Audit a building's fire safety against current standards and produce an improvement plan.
• Brief boards, insurers and authorities on the fire-safety posture of your organisation.
